A Most Noble Reptile

I love turtles. I collect woodcarvings of turtles and paintings of turtles. I will rescue turtles from the road and put them in the woods or grasslands where it is safer. I always visit turtles in the reptile house at the zoo or watch them at the Chattanooga Aquarium.. One of the great sights of my life was an Alligator Snapping Turtle, big as a large dog, crossing the road about eight miles south of Chattanooga. I would never have believed that there would have been one that far northeast... But there he was.
Mary M. Cerullo's _Sea Turtles: Ocean Nomads_ (2003) is an excellant book on one type of turtle, written (I would imagine) for fourth graders and up. There are five main chapters: "Sea Turtle Island," "Seaworthy Turtles," "Time on Land," "Time in the Sea," and "Is Time Running Out?"
The first chapter focuses on Sipidan Island, off Borneo, a refuge for two endangered species of sea turtles. The second chapter is on the body structure of sea turtles. Chapter three is on the life cycle of the turtle on the land. Chapter four is on the life cycle of the turtle at sea. And chapter five is on the dangers to sea turtles and what can be done to save them today. Some attention is given to that great turtle expert, Dr. Archie Carr.
There are sidebars on creatures of the coral reef, dangers from the sea, hearing tests for turtles, species of sea turtles, ages of sea turtles, and sea turtle hospitals.
I have said elsewhere that I prefer children's science books that are artistically excellent. _Sea Turtles_ has terrific color photographs by Jeffrey L. Rotman. I especially loved the contrast between the hawksbill and green turtles on pages 16 and 17, and the leatherback turtle coming to nest by the light of the moon on page 15.
There is an excellent Conservation Resource Guide, a good Glossary, and a passable bibliography and index. Recommended.

I think the story was educating for people who like to know what lives in the underwater life and about sea turtles.Conflict:explorers and divers are serching for an answer on how sea turtles live.Rising acion:they used tools to go down ''sea turtles cave''which was infested with sea turtle bones.Climax:divers took the bones to check how many pounds the largest sea turtle was.Outcome:workers found out everything they had to know about sea turtles and are now making a medicine to save the sea turtles from disise.
