About the Author
A. A. Milne was born in 1882 in London. He was a playwright and journalist as well as a poet and storyteller. His classic children's books were inspired by his son, Christopher Robin. Milne died in 1956.
Ernest H. Shepard was born in 1879 in England. His pictures of the Pooh characters are based on real toys owned by Christopher Robin Milne. Shepard died in 1976.

delightful translation of a delightful original text

I started reading this aloud to my daughter the day I brought her home from the hospital. Earlier this week, I finished it, just short of her 19 month birthday. Despite the long time coming, this is a lovely translation of a classic work.
The translator, Isabel Gortazar, has created rhyming verses to mirror their English ancestors, such as the following (after Pooh finds Eeyore's tail):
El rabo se perdió,
Fue Puh quien lo encontró.
A la hora de almorzar
Puh lo salió a buscar.
I mostly fell in love with this translation when Pooh and the gang were en route to the North Pole, and Eeyore says, "Por mí, podemos ir a descubrir el Polo Norte o dedicarnos a jugar a policies y ladrones. Me da exactemente igual." This line made me laugh, and I went and looked it up in the original English: "We can look for the North Pole or we can play `Here we go gathering Nuts and May' with the end part of an ant's nest. It's all the same to me.'" I laughed again! Thank you, Ms. Gortazar.
Eeyore really does get all the best lines. Towards the end of the book, at Pooh's party, Eeyore says, "Después de todo, no sé de qué me quejo. Tengo amigos. Ayer mismo alguien me dirigió la palabra. Y no hace ni una semana que Conejo chocó conmigo y dijo, `¡Canastos!' Una intensa vida social."
This is a beautiful piece of translation. I only wish Ms. Gortazar had translated more of A.A. Milne's work!

My daughter loves this book! She is English/Spanish bilingual and laughs everytime we have read it together. Isabel Gortazar did a great job with the translation.

It's Winnie the Pooh - - what's not to like?

This was purchased to be read aloud at a children's home (orphanage) in Honduras. These children don't often have 'story-time' and so it was somewhat magical!! Recommended for sure!
