Gr. 4-6. Daniel Cohen, known for his many books on supernatural phenomena, returns to the subject in his latest title, written with his wife. This time, however, the result is a little different--a travelogue of reputedly haunted places across America, complete with notes about location and, sometimes, a resource address or phone number. To make it even easier for travelers, the Cohens have organized the sites by region. The Northeast and the South seem to fare best, home to more than half of the 101 places described. Kids may be disappointed that the text is so matter-of-fact (no sensational tellings here), but the selection is very good. A family can visit Houdini's grave in New York, swing over to New Hampshire to see the site of the first alien abduction, spend time with Harry Truman's ghost in Missouri, then venture west to Roswell, New Mexico. Illustrations, mostly photos, are scattered throughout; finished ones weren't available at the time of this review. Plenty of appeal. A bibliography is appended. Stephanie Zvirin
